Brian P. Hyde, 49, of Scottdale, was struck by a 2019 Dodge Ram heading south on water street around 9:55 a.m. Saturday, March 12, according to Westmoreland County Coroner Timothy Carson.
The pickup driver "failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway and traversed the west edge of the street," hitting Hyde, police said.
Hyde was pronounced dead at Excela Frick Emergency Department, according to the release by the coroner's office.
"It is unknown at this time if weather conditions, speed, and/or cellular phone use was a factor in the incident," the coroner's office says.
Hyde was a class of 1990 graduated of Southmoreland High School before pursuing his Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Thiel College, his obituary says. He went on to spent more than 25 years working as a Correctional Health Care Administrator for the Department of Corrections.
A devoted dad and grandfather, Hyde previously served as the president of the Southmoreland Football Parents Association, head baseball coach of Southmoreland, and the president of the Bullskin Township Little league, according to his obituary. He also previously served as the throws coach for the Somerset High School, Track & Field program.
An autopsy is scheduled for March 14 and toxicology results won’t be available for several weeks. The cause and manner of death will be determined after autopsy and toxicology results are released.
